Oracle MCS version 16.1.3 (v1.2) released

A couple of weeks after Oracle MCS 1.1 (16.1.1) was released, I saw that Oracle MCS What’s new page was updated but until now I did not realised the instance has been updated to this new version.

This new version is 16.1.3 (v1.2) and is now live in Oracle MCS instances. It’s good to see that Oracle keeps updated MCS becasue in less than 3 months we have a new version.

In this new released version there are some changed for every role involved in a MCS development project. These are some of the new features:

  • Enabled Facebook login and Enterprise Singles Sign-On
Now we can enable our mobile users to log into the mobile apps using their Facebook account or their corporate SSO credentials.

  • Debuging notifcations
Oracle MCS provides a device registry where you can check every registered device. It will not show if the token is invalid or if the devide has not been reregisted in 60 days.
  • Notifications REST API
Now we can send driver-especific payloads instead of writting all the code.
  • JavaScript SDK
JavaScript SDK has been re-tooled to support browser-based mobile applications.
  • Database SDK
It is now much easier to interact with MCS Database from Custom APIs implementation.
  • Purge and restore artifacts
In previous versions we were able to delete any artifact but it wasn’t deleted permanently from our MCS instance. Now we can purge MCS artifacts trash or restore or restore items if we deleted if accidentally

OTN Tech Article: PCS, MCS and MAF Integration

I have just published my first OTN Tech Article where I present a use case that demonstrates how Oracle Process Cloud Service (Oracle PCS), Oracle Mobile Cloud Service (Oracle MCS) and Oracle Mobile Application Framework (Oracle MAF) can be use together to expose  an Oracle PCS process instance as a web service and consume it from an external system, web application or mobile application.

Oracle Process Cloud Service is a Platform as a Service (PaaS) provided by Oracle Cloud, allows you to rapidly design, automate, and manage business processes in the cloud.

Oracle Mobile Cloud Service is Oracle’s Mobile Backend as a Service (MBaaS) and enables companies to create and deploy scalable, robust, and secure mobile applications quickly and easily.

Oracle Mobile Application Framework is a hybrid mobile framework that provides a visual and declarative development experience for the rapid development of multi-platform applications

Oracle Fusion Middleware & PaaS Community Forum 2016

This week I had the chance to assist to Oracle Fusion Middleware & PaaS Community Forum 2016 that is taking place in Las Arenas Hotel in Valencia, Spain. This event is organized by Jürgen Kress

The first day was intense and although we started at 10:30 AM we had 6 sessions where some Oracle’s top speakers talked us about Middleware, PaaS, BPM in the Cloud (Process Cloud Service), and my favourite of the day ‘Next-Generation application Development – The Mobile and Cloud effect’ where we were able to see a Oracle Mobile Application Accelerator demo (It will be included in future releases of Oracle Mobile Cloud Service) that will help business users to create mobile applications easily.

The last part of the day was the Community Awards where avanttic was awarded with Oracle Fusion Middleware Community Forum – Mobile award for Outstanding Mobile Contribution 2016. I had the honor to receive the award and also to present the customer success of our last Oracle MAF and Oracle MCS project.

Congratulations to all the winners of this year!

This is the slide I presented.

After the awards ceremony, we headed to Masia Campo Anibal where we enjoyed the dinner talking to other partners and people from Oracle.

The second day started earlier than the first one and the presentations were more technical. We were able to choose one of the 4 breakouts:

  • SOA & Integration & SOA Cloud Service track
  • BPM & Process Cloud Service & User experience track
  • WebLogic & Java Cloud Service & Engineered Systems track
  • Mobile track & Internet of Things (IoT) track
I assisted the last one, Mobile track & Internet of Things (IoT) track where we were able to listen to Frank Nimphius about ‘Accessing Oracle MCS from Oracle MAF’ and ‘Extending Oracle ADF Application to Cloud and Mobile’ and  Andrejus Baranovskis about ‘Oracle JET and WebSockets’.
Although al presentations were fantastic I leave the first one of the day to the last because I was impressed by the presentation about ‘IoT Cloud Service and Predictive Maintenance Showcase’ by Luis Weir and Simon Nicholson. It allowed us to know what can be achieved with Oracle IoTCS, Oracle MCS and Oracle MAF.

After the breakouts there were 2 presentations, the first one was a ‘Live hacking’ where 5 Oracle ACE Director showed us the integration among a lot PaaS products. The last one by Shishir Agarwal about ‘Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)’ allowed us to know the IaaS strategy.

I would like to thank Jürgen Kress for organize again this wonderful event. I can’t wait for the next year!

First Mobile Cloud Service project in Spain is now in prodution!

This is an important week in the mobile scene where Mobile World Congress is taking place in Barcelona, I think there is no better time to announce that the first Oracle Mobile Cloud Service in Spain is now in production. If you don’t know what Mobile Cloud Service is, you can check all my previous posts here. Posts about Mobile Cloud Service.

In avanttic we developed this project combining Oracle Mobile Application Framework with Oracle Mobile Cloud Service, which has allowed us to implement a mobility solution for the sales force of Industrial Farmacéutica Cantabra (IFC) in no time. The application will allow IFC to gain efficiency in their sales process and increase the turnover.

About the technology:

Oracle Mobile Application Framework is a hybrid mobile framework that enables developers to rapidly develop multi-platform single-source applications Oracle MAF provides a visual and declarative development experience and maximizes code reuse resulting in faster development of mobile applications.”

Oracle Mobile Cloud Service is Oracle’s Mobile Backend as a Service (MBaaS) and enables companies to create and deploy scalable, robust, and secure mobile applications quickly and easily, and empowers developers to leverage enterprise IT systems—without having to get IT involved”

Oracle Mobile Cloud Service New version has been released

New Oracle Mobile Cloud Service version has been released where we can find, a redisign of the application and some improvements that we were missing the the previous version (1.0). This new version 1.1 matches 16.1.1

if you want to know more about Oracle Mobile Cloud Service you can check my previous post: Oracle Mobile Cloud Service overview

The first changes that we can see is the design of the application. In the new version the menu is on the left hand side and you can collapse it. You can also change between environments with the combo box in the header of the application.

Another change we find is in Mobile Backend authentication. In the previous version we were able to use HTTP Basic, but in the new version we can configure our Mobile Backend to use OAuth authentication.

Oracle said that more connectors will come in future releases. Until now we were able to integrate REST and SOAP web services, now we can integrate our Integration Cloud Service instance thanks to the new connector.

Analytics is other feature that has changed, nwo we can create custom reports so we can avoid to select the filters every time we want to see them.

Other new features that were introduced are:

  • We can now integrate out .NET and JavaScript applications thanks to the new SDKs.
  • We can configure some static values when deploying between environments in our Mobile Cloud Service instance by editing a properties file.
  • We can also export and import any artifact we create so the migration between instances is easier.
